Bio-card
 The bio-card is a plastic card which measures skin temperature. This is a biofeedback modality and therapeutic technique which is used extensively at Berent Associates. After placing the thumb of your dominant hand on the card for 10 seconds a color will appear on the card.
This color represents changing degrees of relaxation or stress based on the physiological process of vaso-dilation and vaso-constriction.Dry warm hands represent relaxation. Cold, cool, or sweaty hands represent stress.
Use of the card will facilitate an individual's ability to identify thoughts and emotions related to stress and relaxation. It will also empower the awareness of the difference between "good" and "bad" stress. In addition, it can be an important tool to facilitate the learning of self regulation and relaxation skills.
The book "Work Makes Me Nervous: Overcome Anxiety and Build the Confidence to Succeed" teaches a detailed methodology for use of the card. The self help audio CD programs "Public Speaking Anxiety" and "Comprehensive Therapy" also incorporate the use of this important therapeutic tool. |
