Selective
Mutism Seminar: Jonathan Berent & Major League Baseball Player
Wednesday March 4
8 PM E.S.T.
Kirk Rueter was a pitcher
in the major leagues for 13 years; playing for The Montreal Expos and San Francisco
Giants. During his career he won 130 games as a pitcher. In 2002 he pitched a
World Series game against The Anaheim Angels. During his career, he and his wife
Karla raised two wonderful children. One had Selectve Mutism.
Currently the Rueters are
in the middle of what appears to be successful treatment for their daughter.
They are currently applying my treatment program, which teaches parents,
in essence, how to be “therapists” for the selectively mute child.
Selective Mutism is a complex
anxiety problem which impacts 7 out of 1000 children. This is an amazing statistic
when you consider that 6 out of 1000 children have autism. Thankfully there are
many programs in place for the autistic community. The fact that there is so
little help worldwide for Selective Mutism demonstrates the insidious and confusing
character of this problem, which baffles the psychotherapy and medical communities.
During this free, one of
a kind, seminar, you will have a unique opportunity to have your questions answered,
and to hear a very reality based discussion with Jonathan
Berent, L.C.S.W. and parents who are on the clinical “front line”.
In the meantime you may
want to listen
to interviews with families and individuals who have resolved Selective Mutism
and Social Anxiety.
While this seminar is free,
the spaces are limited and are available on a first come, first served basis.
