Need help parenting a child with Selective Mutism

Asked By: Anonymous     Views: 1,510 times

My 6 year old daughter has social anxiety and selective mutism. She used to be way worse before but she has improved a lot. I need additional professional help in order to take her all the way thru it.

Thank you for your interest. I would suggest, as a starting point, you go to www.akfsa.org and obtain a copy of the dvd "Social Anxiety: The Untold Story". Chapters 7-8 are about Selective Mutism. Included are many interviews with families and individuals who have resolved the problem, as well as an introduction to the parenting therapy methodology. The next step would be actual treatment. Also, there are numerous entries in this blog regarding Selective Mutism as well as alot of content throughout our site.

The following is part of a collection of questions and sharing by our readership community about a wide variety of aspects of social anxiety. Dive in and receive practical insights and advice. If you have a question that is not included you can contact Jonathan at jberent@socialanxiety.com.
