The Friendship Foundation is a nonprofit organization that offers socialization opportunities for adults and teenagers with learning disabilities and developmental problems. The focus is on the development of relationships and enhancement of social skills within a nurturing social group environment. Recreational activities include specialized workshops, sports, discussion groups, and trips to places of interest. Activities are developed through the process of democratic decision-making, which is facilitated by an experienced and professional staff. This program meets weekly on Sundays at the New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury, New York. A support group is available for parents. To ensure constructive decision making, the Board of Directors of the Friendship Foundation is comprised of parents.
